Christeson Family Holiday Newsletter © Vol 24 - 2011 (a catch up as I haven't sent out my letter for a couple of years)

Cameron – motivated, personable, driven, vagabond, let’s fly by the seat of my pants, entrepreneur in the making (blame that one on mom – yeah baby!! lol) Christeson – Graduated from Utah Valley University in 2009 in International Business; UVU is a campus of approx., 33,000 students, sandwiched between a breathtaking mountain range of 11,000 feet of shear granite and beautiful Utah Lake (where, in our teens, we were always on the lookout for submarine sightings ha! ) … He continues to work as a supervisor slash innovator of creative motivational team challenges as he awaits finishing touches on his friends innovative start up business. Cam will then be returning to home plate (the burgh) for a time as he helps to launch the biz as the companies East coast Sales Manager (trust me when I say ‘you are going to die’ when you hear what this business focuses on!) We’re excited for the guys to see how their venture fares as it has the potential of being an incredible blessing in countless lives! … He also continues to enjoy his circle of friends, activities and ward ... Fall 2010 Cam had a horrific motorcycle accident, was hit by a drunk driver, but after surgeries at two hospitals (orthopedic surgeon in Provo who saved his life and inserted rods and pins from hip to ankle & plastic surgeon in Salt Lake who saved his limb via muscle, artery, veins transfer from upper to lower leg to provide blood supply for limb to thrive) & rehab he is a walking miracle!! With only one artery in his leg I fear he will always suffer but he walks, drives and hopes to run again one day … He continues to date a bevy of darling girls hoping to meet the girl of his dreams, not Miss Perfect simply Miss perfect for him (and he would prefer a girl who can carry on an in-depth conversation lol, has her own individual goals and will love him as deeply as he will her (hey that’s not asking too much is it?!) He is a riot, without hesitation in implementing innovative ways to meet and/or ask a girl out on a date (He’s got places to go and people to meet so chop chop) … Currently he also serves as big brother extraordinaire to little sister Ashley; he has been experiencing first hand the challenges of acting as a phantom father behind the scenes assisting Ash in everything from adapting to a new area, learning the transit system, seeking employment, transferring to a new university, locating safe, equitable, housing, meeting new friends, etc. J … Cam & Ash share a remarkable sibling relationship – they’re best friends! … Other than that he continually keeps us in stitches due to his cracker jack sense of humor, misses attending live Penns & Steelers games with Jon and movie & lunch outings with me, longs to finally live in a warm, sunny climate one day and texts & calls frequently which pleases us greatly! … Cam the man rocks; we love this dedicated, hard working, innovative thinking, caring man to pieces!

Ashley babe – passionate, talented, singing & English fanatic (editing & spelling soup Nazi lol), female heartbreaker (but hey that’s life), independent woman on the run, Christeson - attended Penn State University for two years where she made the Dean’s List several times, was nominated to Who’s Who Among Students in America, also nominated by several professors as an orientation leader, chaired the winter formal and was awarded lead female roles in two PSU musical productions Frankenstein (the musical) & Grease (hitting the high notes & morphing from Miss goody-two shoes to black spandex diva suited her haha) all the while working part-time at Longwood of Oakmont has now flown the coop and calls Provo, Utah home! (Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen) … Ash currently works part-time as one of her companies top collectors; she is fearless collecting overdue accounts from customers screaming at her on the other end of the line (you don’t want to mess with this chick lol. Seriously it requires expert listening & negotiation skills combined with a thick skin and sense of humor) … At the end of spring semester at PSU she wanted to move to Provo for the summer for a much needed and well earned change of atmosphere so as to hang out with Cam. Our two kidlets are devoted to one another, always having fun from road trips to Vegas to double dating in Salt Lake, jamming/performing via his guitar, her voice, baking cookies or preparing dinner for her roommates (I think Cam has an ulterior motive here haha), enjoying concerts, photo shoots, sports, church, shopping, movies, you name it they do it together; the two of them enjoy one another’s company and have each other’s back (they realize this is a once in a lifetime opportunity hanging out together like this before they are each married and living who knows where in the world!) once there she fell in love with Utah, all of our family history, experiences living there and our old haunts where we have all hung out and she decided to stay! … Ash has since transferred to Utah Valley University to wrap up her undergrad degree in Elementary Education where she is thoroughly enjoying her classes (except for missing her incredible PSU history professor who had a gift for bringing the subject to life; but she has been dong her student observation in our friend Gayle’s 5^th grade classroom which has pleased Ashley greatly!). She has a passion for both English and French and her children’s lit class is by far her favorite UVU class this semester; and she looks forward to returning to music next semester where she has master works a capella and women’s chorus classes; she would like to audition for on campus or community theater at some point when she has the time to do so (she currently takes classes up until 9 pm on top of her work schedule which leaves her limited time to raise the rafters and delve back into the entertaining but sometimes quirky world of drama/music) … Ash loves her life in Utah, though it hasn’t been an easy adjustment leaving family and all of her dear friends and PSU experiences behind, but she has some lovely roommates, has been dating a variety of guys (ever the romantic), and is head over heels for the local Zuppa’s, Jamba Juice, and loves interacting with family and friends who reside throughout the area (a sincere thank you to all who have taken our kids under your wings and helped them in more ways than I can list; you are our families ‘earth angels’ and we will be forever grateful! My parents used to do this for my own out of state cousins J ) … We miss Ashley’s constant singing around the house, her friends bopping in and out, her late night impromptu jam sessions with her dad and giggling girls outings with me but we know she is where she is meant to be! We love our focused, creative, pink obsessed princess slash baby doll to the stars and back!

Jon – loyal, hard working, 50’s throwback dad (the Beaver for President!), Penns & Steelers enthusiast, political commentator extraordinaire, chomping at the bit to move to Phoenix future retiree (ten cheers he did it the right and honorable way!!) man for all seasons Christeson – has been hard at work focusing on home repairs (even Santa can’t climb on the roof with that lumbering finesse that Jon can?!) and renovations in order to sell our home (what a choice neighborhood the future owner will move into! J) … He has been called to serve in the bishopric of the Pittsburgh, PA Third Ward for the third time YIKES (as 1^st counselor this go around serving with a fantastic young bishopric, much like when he served as a young bishop himself J & now taking on the role of, “Awhhhh, dad’s home” dynamic if you get my drift) … He’s enjoyed several live hockey and football games, thus far, parading around in his team jerseys … Spent over seven, exhausting, grueling months unselfishly taking care of me in four different hospitals and at home due to my various ghastly surgeries! … Enjoys precious moments catching some zzzzzz’s with his little companion by his side (Missy Belle Buttons our holiday hound dog) … Jon also enjoyed a delightful trip to sunny Phoenix looking at future home sites and later attending a business conference (yup, he still appears to be like a Mafia king pin the way people from diverse companies flock around him attempting to secure his attention ha ha.) and yes he still thoroughly enjoys his work and those in whom he works with internally and throughout the world. Jon has impacted so many lives for good throughout his career and all of his stake and ward church callings; his level of integrity, vast knowledge of every subject under the sun, engaging personality and love and respect for his friends and colleagues of different cultures, ethnicity, religious views, etc., causes him to be well liked and held in high esteem - of course I'm his biggest fan! … Over the hill Barbie and mid-life crisis Ken are one step closer to living our dream in our palm and citrus tree slash cactus ridden non surfs up environment! The easy drive on 101 to southern California or hour flight to either LA or SLC is very appealing to us and hey we will have lovely guest accommodations so we’ll keep a light on for you! (wink-wink-grin) … Next up for Jon is preparing for the kids to come home for the holidays; it doesn’t get any sweeter than that! (I think we can endure an avalanche of snow and these icka East coast ice storms a little longer because having the kid’s home makes everything warm and cozy!)

Rebecca – optimistic, creative, writer trainer speaker, pathological picture taker, crazy lady, (who has one messed up body but as Jon likes to say “Shine on you crazy diamond” – Pink Floyd lol ?!) Christeson keeps on rockin’. … In all seriousness I feel great humility for the many blessings received, including literal miracles beyond belief as a result of the power of collective faith and prayer! (Thank you one and all, both far and near, for your endless prayers, acts of kindness, visits, letters, texts, calls, emails and yummy meals/deserts throughout my horrifying surgical ordeals! You are exceptional saints from varied religions and your loving concern literally helped our family cope throughout the months of excruciating pain and despair! xoxo) … Three surgeries and four hospitals in four months was mind-blowing; and the accounts of blatant negligence disheartening! (But the Jell-o was rad lol) and with Jon always by my side fearlessly protecting me, talking care of me and trying to help keep my spirits up was priceless! The account would require pages to write and would make an unbelievable read if not for the fact that every snippet is true and did, indeed, happen; but it’s over now and I’M BACK! … Seven months later I was able to return to doing what I have a passion for; educating, inspiring and motivating individuals from diverse walks of life and businesses! (Life begins at the end of your comfort zone folks!) My company Christeson & Associates training with a twist continues to thrive as we provide innovative, interactive training for diverse businesses and industries; I love the people I train and coach as well as the creative outlet of writing and developing my classes and materials :) Having full control over my product and brand meshes well with my internal drive and desire to write and create! … I've also enjoyed non technical time writing (working on family histories and my manuscripts), blogging, reading, speaking, studying the scriptures, scouring decorating and landscaping ideas and the like combined with envisioning the upcoming new chapter in our life (sorry but the petition that its so hot in Phoenix doesn't phase us because its so cold and dreary in the PA burgh and the UT bubble far more many months of the year so we vote for over 300+ days per year of SUNSHINE), however, we LOVE our life here in PA; our wide circle of friends, incredible East coast experiences, adventures, travel, missionary and compassionate service opportunities, as well as everything from the vast history, pro sporting events, culture, distinct architecture, incredible beauty of this densely wooded state and good solid families continue to feed our souls! Penn will forever be a special place in our hearts no matter what the future holds for us! … I have also recently been called as our ward Addiction Recovery program facilitator to help individuals from wards in both Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh North stakes work through this powerful program. I have a personal testimony of this divinely inspired program and of the excellent materials used. Jon and I actually participated in the twelve part series not because of any addictions we could identify within ourselves (poor habits yes, actual addictions no unless you count my pension for cherry ICEE’s :) we participated to simply draw even closer to our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ as I had been told it would impact our lives on many levels and indeed it did! (Every religion could benefit from this program) We called it our spiritual date night (as opposed to our fun date nights focusing on movies, dinner, activities, etc.) and would participate in the classes, do the required homework and then enjoy a long walk together after each class. It was a magnificent experience and enhanced our lives greatly! I recommend getting over ones apprehension or embarrassment based on the title and focus of the program, enroll, and then allow the light of Christ to further strengthen you, your relationships, and your compassion for others … In addition, after our trip to Phoenix I was able to spend time in Utah with our kids, mom, and other family and friends! Cam & Ash greeted me at the airport wearing goofy mustaches and even had one for me (and boy did I rock the Hulk Hogan look - NOT!) … We enjoyed a lovely family party with dear relatives, I was able to visit mom several times a day (she is so content, happy, enjoys her activities and is constantly visited by family all of which is simply another testament to prayer and another touching story that ends in doing what is best for ones loved one vs. what one feels is best for oneself.) … In closing, I've always said that “Life is an extraordinary adventure!”; and trials and challenges are meant to test our faith in the Lord and to demonstrate our ability to thrive in the face of adversity helping to prove our mettle and worthiness to return to God’s presence one day. I bear you my testimony that God our eternal father lives and loves all of His children on this earth; and His son Jesus is the Christ, our Savior and Redeemer who leads His remarkable church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which profoundly blesses lives throughout the world! Our family is greatly blessed because of this sure knowledge which is our compass in living happy, productive, spiritual lives. Be courageous and seek to learn why I have always been so bold in stating this truth. Latter-day Saint temples usher in the Christmas holiday season

A beautiful way to usher in the holidays is to enjoy the Salt Lake temple Christmas lights and visitors center; equal to the beauty of the Washington DC temple and all of the fond memories based on incredible experiences we as a family have enjoyed throughout the years here at our beloved temple! Latter-day Saint temples world wide celebrate in the birth of our savior Jesus Christ and provide exquisite, visual confirmation of that fact through beautiful Christmas light displays for all members and non members alike to enjoy!

I am so very grateful for the extraordinary blessings we have enjoyed; truly humbled by sacred miracles that have changed my life, and others, forever. I am so blessed to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and bare witness that our Heavenly Father loves all of His children on this earth. Also, Jesus is the Christ, our savior and redeemer and leads his church this day. Desert landscapes & the mountain west - that's living!

We enjoyed a delightful combined personal / business trip to Phoenix and Salt Lake City! Arizona cactus is the most bizarre, somewhat disturbing yet irritatingly interesting plant species ever - grin. Sunshine INCREDIBLE sunshine, fantastic people and ya can't forget all of those palm trees!

Our last night there dining in a fabulous Scottsdale restaurant with a table of friends; ground level, large windows open allowing a slight desert breeze to embrace us along with the fresh scent tied to a surprise thunder storm permeated the room. Talking, laughing, relaxing and thoroughly enjoying the moment - pure heaven ... we WILL return still again!

Utah's rugged Wasatch Mountain Range always warmly welcomes me home. Having grown up at the foot of Mount Timpanogos with its 11,000 feet of shear granite cliffs is impressive to say the least. In my youth I hiked to the top of Timp enjoying Emerald Lake, a beautiful lake created by glacier water, along with hiking up 'G' mountain and enjoying the local canyons - delightful memories.

I received another warm welcome at the airport from our adult children now residing in Utah wearing zany, fake mustaches including one for me and boy did I rock that Hulk Hogan knock off hahaha! (Our family is always doing crazy fun things). Time with our kids was blissful, time spent with mom, extended family and friends was also delightful; great fun at a family party, wonderful conversations as well as hanging out at former haunts raking in the memories of first meeting my husband when we were in high school together and now a gazillion years later here we are still together, happy, in love, devoted to one another enjoying a life that provides us opportunities like these for travel and adventure. Thanks Jon - you rock!

My daughter and I have a combined love of prisms which we hang on our Christmas tree; when sunlight penetrates the prism a rainbow of magnificent colors bursts forth dancing all over the room. Faith is much like this. Faith is a sure knowledge of things one cannot see and each of us are like a prism; when the spirit of God touches our soul a multitude of traits, talents, values, core beliefs, etc., materialize spilling forth and at that moment we come to realize who we are and who we are meant to become. Our infinite worth is dazzling! Exercise faith.

Another lovely day meandering along beautiful Pennsylvania country roads and our families final photos at our favorite pumpkin patch.

Twenty one years ago we began shooting family pictures at Myers Pickle Farm for many years off and on documenting our childrens lives growing up :) This week Jon and I enjoyed reminiscing about our kids as children chasing each other throughout the rows of pumpkins which were often larger than the kidles themselves were :) We then moved into the the almost 'too cool for pumpkin photos' pre-teen junior high school phase and onto the almost grown 'I'm too busy for pumpkin pictures' high school years. Finally young adulthood with college for two plus a mission for one and suddenly 'hanging out with mom and dad once again 'was considered to be terrific! Each year was special including a picnic lunch or ice cream cones on the way home, a lot of singing and laughter, teasing and sharing memories of past visits to the magical pumpkin farm. Of course our visits had a duel purpose; returning home with a myriad of incredible pumpkins to carve for Halloween!

We actually discovered this charming pumpkin farm while out on a family ride throughout the country side with my mother who was visiting with us. Our first pictures were, thereby, taken by grandma when Ashley was less than two months old and Cameron was the new five year old kindergarten 'big brother'. We discovered a severe medical problem undetected in Ashley barely a week after our first set of photos which required our rushing off to Children's Hospital for a couple of weeks; thank goodness the problem was resolved and the last photo Ashley babe appeared in at the pumpkin patch, I am happy to say, was as a college coed! Cameron then off attending a university in Utah and for a time also in Hong Kong serving a church mission took him out of the picture, all pun intended, but hopefully one day we will return to PA with our kids, their spouses and our future grand children for at least one last family picture at our special place which has been filled with warm and wonderful memories for our family!

Other photos in my album (see all on my face book page) were taken in beautiful Boyce Park about five miles from our home where we have spent endless hours with family and friends while the kids were growing up. Picnics, hikes through the woods, parties, to Cam's high school cross country team training, booster meetings, meals and competitions running throughout the trails in the woods. Memories of trying to touch the sky with our toes as all of us enjoyed swinging on the sturdy, park swing sets, to games of hide and seek and Ashley singing everywhere and anywhere in the park :) Since she was two years old she has sung her little heart out every day of her life. Ashley would sing while standing on tree stumps, and picnic tables, while rolling down hills, sitting on hill sides or sea-saws and while taking nature walks through the woods. Boyce Park was filled with Ashley's music and Cam's Scouting program activities - such delightful memories spending time together as a family in another special place.

Additional pictures were shot this week en route to and from Punxsutawney on business which is where Punxsutawney Phil the famous groundhog resides who predicts an early or late spring; children throughout the country have grown up with an ear toward 'Groundhog Day' (grin).

Autumn in Pennsylvania is simply breathtaking! The flora is a blaze in vivid color and so many charming country roads exist just begging one to spend time meandering along while discovering the picturesque settings unlike no other.

Pennsylvania will forever be etched in our hearts; it has been a meaningful place to raise our family!

An afternoon meandering through Amish country

I snatched Jon from work surprising him for a lovely adventure through our beloved Amish country located just over an hour away. It was a beautiful 70 degree, sunny October afternoon & such fun singing in the car & laughing as usual while we revisited one of our favorite red covered bridges which Penn is known for beside an old grist mill, Amish folks in their buggies going about their business, a former flour mill turned into part museum, part shops & dining at Rachel's Road House ... Incredible memories of Penn will be forever etched in my mind! Note: one of the small Inn's was the site of the underground rail road in the Civil War; many Amish people helped the slaves. Callings to Serve the Lord

"And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me." Moroni 7:33 ... It's always extremely moving to me when I see Jon set apart for each ward or stake calling for which he has been called to serve in within the church. The power of the Priesthood resonates throughout the world bringing incredible blessings into all of the lives who believe in Christ and seek to follow him; obviously serving in what ever capacity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is just one way to further serve the Lord by helping to care for God’s children on this earth.

Though older but wiser this 3rd time around serving in a bishopric I know this man’s heart and soul; and he loves the gospel of Jesus Christ, he loves his family and the people he serves & his cheerful attitude as always will be contagious. Though Brother Wilson is a hard act to follow (we love you Paul & Lindsey!!) Jon will do all in his power to be a strong support & influence to all :) ... now if I can just convince him (in his spare time, yeah right lol) to bake some brownies I will really be a happy camper! (grin)

Star light, star bright ...

Twenty one years ago our beautiful, precious daughter was born! The tail end of a remarkable story beginning many years prior to her birth is that our son, her darling five year old brother, insisted that we needed to wish on a star for his baby sister. He was adamant as he had just watched the Flintstones cartoon program on TV and Barny and Betty Rubble wished on a star and baby Bam-Bam was awaiting their surprise discovery on their doorstep the following day.

We did, indeed, wish on a star that evening but more so to humor our sweet son; after all what could it hurt?! (grin) ... guess what ... literally two days later we received a call from our adoption agency asking if we would like to come and bring our new baby daughter home; we were totally surprised and in a great deal of shock!!!! Of course a little fasting and prayer (actually a lot) did not hurt either :) How blessed our family has been to have our incredible daughter bless our lives! Heavenly Father gets the correct spirit to the correct home one way or another!

Now twenty-one years later, our incredibly intelligent, talented, inquisitive, spiritual, beautiful, kind, loving, devoted, comical co-ed continues to brighten the lives of all in whom she comes to know. A breath of fresh air, living at the speed of light she continues to leave her unique mark on life. We are excited to see what lies in store for her in the years to come; we know what ever challenges and joys await her she will be up to the task of living a life worthy of the experiences, tests, and blessings our Heavenly Father will continue to bestow upon her.

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight ... I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight. We wished on a star and our Ashley babe came true! We are definitely a family who will forever believe in the magic of wishing on stars! Happy birthday sweetheart! xoxo

And by the way - our son and daughter continue to share a most delightful, loving, brother-sister relationship to this day; they are the very best of friends!

The Quilting Bee

For all of you quilters out there ... Dear friends designed and created these exquisite quilts for Ashley and I. My friend Gayle, living in Utah, surprised me with the lovely soft pastel pink and brown quilt; her talent and artistic ability are incredible! She recently surprised Ashley with the fun pink and black artsy, more youthful design perfect for a college co-ed which simply delighted Ash as well. The third equally beautiful quilt, red and blue rooster design, was recently given to me by our circle of talented quilters in our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Latter-day Saint ward.

The art of quilting has been passed down from generation to generation tied to my Mormon pioneer heritage. I remember my fraternal grandmother always working on a quilt or other piece of handiwork; friends and family often participated adding stitches here and there amid laughter and discussion. I in turn learned to quilt, tough I never became expert at it, as a young girl in my Pleasant Grove, Utah ward. My mother taught me to cross stitch and to crochet afghans, with a large hook, the hairpin lace design being my favorite!

Old fashioned quilting bees are great fun! It amazes me the designs created by so many quilters throughout the world, its such a labor intensive art form but greatly admired and appreciated by our family! Ashley and I will treasure our works of art for many years to come - thank you everyone!

Pre-birthday mania :)

It was such fun having our lovely daughter home for a visit prior to returning out west for college! (She excitedly decided to transfer from PSU to wrap up her degree) There is nothing like hosting parties, sleep overs, birthday outings, hair appointment chit chat ... LOVE her east coast friends be-bopping in and out of our home :) But what I loved the most was peeking into her childhood bedroom at night and seeing her cuddled up in her bed fast asleep, safe and sound. Life goes on but memories last forever! We are so blessed to have two precious children in whom we absolutely adore - and now can't wait for Cameron's fall return as well! ... Only a couple of months and I'll see you in Salt Lake baby doll :)

I enjoyed a simply delightful birthday with my husband and friends & family both far and near. Face Book is such a wonderful tool in this technological world in being able to share and receive birthday wishes of good cheer in combination with hanging out with terrific friends in the flesh! No gifts required at this stage in the game folks but Jon, ever the romantic, the tease, the sentimentalist, and the comical man that he is surprised me with an adorable blown glass, pink flamingo figurine (a family joke and a different story all together) and a terrific DVD focusing on the year I was born … what a hoot!

Another one of my special surprises was receiving a copy of my dearest childhood story book which has been lost for years and now found by my dear friend Gayle! She obtained a copy of ‘Timmy Mouse’ which is no longer published (she also sent me a copy of my other favorite book which I call ‘Go Away Little Stray’ at Christmas J) I was so shocked that Gayle had found this treasured book that my mother used to read to me over and over again that it compelled me to snap pictures of it positioned throughout our home (grin). News flash … crazy lady on the loose; Beck the pathological photographer could not get a grip on herself! lol

I’ve posted a few of the photo’s I took of ‘Timmy Mouse’ for my posterity to see; the original two story books will certainly be kept under glass and displayed in a prominent place in our home – NOT! However, they will be kept to share once again with our grown children and future grandchildren. And WHY do you ask do I post the things I do on my blog? As an ongoing personal history; a snippet of our lives as a family for generations to view via the internet … a two-clap (my version of a standing ovation) and a WINK for modern technology and birthday whimsy!

Its SUMMER ¸.•'¯`•♫♥Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ♥♫´¯`•.¸¸. does it get any better than this?!!

My recent Face Book status - I enjoyed another sparkle night at dusk on the deck with Jon surrounded by beautiful flowers, my multicolored fairy lights strung about and a plethora of magical lightning bugs flickering here and there … will be forever freeze framed in my memory!

I love summertime! I'm not referring to this unbearable heat permeating the country; rather, summer is a state of mind, an attitude, a time for more abundance in creative thought, and a time to enjoy leisure activities helping to refresh ones soul.

Summer is a time to sing at the top of our lungs, to catch moon beams in our hands, to enjoy the extraordinary visual spectacle of flowers in bloom & trees providing shade. Summer, as all seasons, is a time to give thanks to God for our many blessings and to further enjoy all that He provides in an attempt to bless our lives so richly.

February through June I have been dealing with three major disc surgeries; the story is bizarre if not a total nightmare! However, thanks to our dear friend who is now practicing neurosurgery out west my life has literally been saved! After enduring a botched surgery and horrendous follow-up care for over a month then followed by still another horrifying chapter of this experience at still another hospital’s ER and nine more days in that hospital drugged up but never fully evaluated or treated we were inspired to call our friend for help who arranged with a brilliant neurosurgeon to take over my care; my current surgeon had completed his residency with our friend years ago in our area. (Did ya love this run on sentence lol)

After hearing four different doctors in this second hospital tell me I was just fine and my MRI was just fine (as if they had memorized that line) once Jon was able to literally get me out of that hospital after literally threatening them so as to meet with my current surgeon at still a third hospital, he showed us point blank that I had been suffering from a massive re-ruptured disc since the initial surgery in February!!!!!!! Four doctor's literally lied to me though the proof of my incredible pain screamed out at them from my MRI and each time anyone simply touched my leg causing it to spasm out of control compelling me to scream at the top of my lungs! I was literally told that because I would not allow my initial surgeon to treat me in this hospital (and I quote) “no one at this hospital will treat you!” The intense and insane experience I then endured as a result of an ‘old boy's network’ set in place to protect the ego and image of my initial surgeon caused me to become the victim of what turned into the nightmare of a lifetime! Many abnormal things occurred which I documented and plan to present to administrators and others in the near future; and hopefully to help protect other patients from ever having to experience what I endured.

Far too many strange and damaging things occurred which I am not writing about in this blog; and through it all I have never experienced pain as horrific as I endured for so long but through the power of the Priesthood, the faith and prayers of my incredible husband, family and friends everywhere, and a skilled medical team I am literally a walking miracle! I feel ever grateful to my Heavenly Father as He was with me through each bleak, tormented moment as I truly experienced the refiner’s fire learning many important personal and spiritual lessons throughout the process. Now after enduring a cerebral spinal fluid leak repair which prior to surgery felt as if my brain was about to explode out of my skull, still another horrifying aspect of this medical fiasco, I am now well on the road to recovery. I am told it will be a lengthy process of healing overall, but considering what Jon and I have endured over these past frightening months I feel encouraged and at peace that my Heavenly Father will continue to oversee my recovery.

Many sincere, heart felt thanks to all of you for your endless prayers, calls, letter, emails, texts and Face Book messages which have helped to lift my spirits when I have been most down! Your love and support has been a supreme gift to both Jon and I!

On a lighter note: Ashley is enjoying the summer working out west so as to spend time with her brother and other Latter-day Saint roommates, friends and co-workers. She is thoroughly enjoying visiting with family in the area who have been spoiling our kidlets rotten as well as being entertained by the coolest older brother on the face of the earth! Cam and Ash have a most remarkable brother-sister relationship which warms the heart. We miss both of them to pieces but are so pleased Ash is in such a terrific environment enjoying herself, learning additional life/coping skills and making exciting decisions regarding her future. In addition, Cam recently accepted a new position for which he is excited; a very comical story which I will post as my next blog entry :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day, birthday to my mother dear; such an independent, adventurous, spiritual cheerful, loving & devoted mom who created incredible memories for our family when I was growing up!

A mother who was thinking outside of the box long before the phrase was ever coined. She and dad shared such a sweet love story; a marriage that thrived vs., simply survived. If anyone wonders why I delight in creating magical, memorable moments, traditions and events it all started with mom's example. A passion for laughter, reading, travel, home and family activities, church and community service, life long friendships, as well as magic wands, tea parties in pink (even into her elder years :) whimsy and charm only begin to describe the rich legacy she left me with; a heritage for which I am very proud and as such I continue to strive to mirror her example.

She remains far more patient than I along with other significant traits I have yet to achieve; and has a knack for seeing the good in others even if "their good" appears to be only the size of an apple seed lol, nevertheless, here are two clinks and a toast to you mom, with your long stemmed, tear drop, crystal goblets filled with St. Patrick's Day green apple cider along with butterfly kisses coming your way on your special day!

How blessed I am to have been loved by someone as passionate as you have been about life! And in spite of daunting challenges throughout your life you have remained kind, gracious and giving! How ecstatic dad will be when he finally greets you again looking at that 19 year old girl he fell in love with and in whom he whisked off to the Logan temple to marry spending 60+ wonderful years together … and on through eternity!

I was 14 when I first crushed on you Jon, on the PGHS stage acting together in the play Life with Father; you had a lead, I had one line & I nearly broke out in hives each time you even looked at me! You continue to surprise me, inspire me,... make me giggle, make my heart sing, compel me to strive always to be the caliber of wife and best friend that you so fully deserve, and realize that an eternity with anyone but you would be bleak in comparison!

Thank you for a life time of incredible memories, endless acts of compassionate service, unbridled devotion, remarkable children, unceasing moments filled with love, joy and humor, and the depth and texture brought to my life as a result of the many rich blessings I have received as a result of you choosing to magnify your Priesthood within our home.

Ashley has been awarded the female lead of Sandy in the PSU spring musical Grease; and Michael has also been awarded the male lead of Danny! These two have incredible chemistry and are each exceedingly talented vocally; this production should be very entertaining!!

Delightful holiday fun! Cameron is making tracks on those crutches of his, Ashley remains a Hello Kitty fiend, I was surprised with a gift from my dear friend Gayle; my all time favorite childhood story book (how she found a copy??!!) "The Puppy Who Found a Home ... Go away little stray, go away I say!". Also, one of our favorite childhood games of strategy Chinese checkers which Jon and I enjoy playing to this day, our special Family Home Evening and feast, playing Christmas songs on the chimes, flaming snowballs, homemade candy and other delights to enjoy, our last live tree (after 35 years of incredible blue spruce) laden with ornaments collected throughout the years, singing carols, reading from our extensive collection of unique Christmas books, Christmas lights and activities, Missy Belle Buttons festive holiday tutu haha, board game marathons, laughter and sharing memories, visits and party's with family and friends in whom we treasure and the gospel of Jesus Christ giving purpose to our lives all made for an incredible, memorable Christmas and New Year's Eve 2010!

The tree lights dazzle, the hot cocoa soothes, the music softly penetrates the silence; how blessed to be in a warm, cozy home away from the piercing, cold snow swirling about ... she eagerly awaits her families return.

Message to Ash at the close of 2009 …. You’re 19 and every 19 years a blue moon occurs! A blue moon is actually the occurrence of a full moon appearing twice in one month; obviously a rare occurrence hence the song Blue Moon and the saying "It only happens in a blue moon." My gift to you, dear daughter who is a rare find in and of yourself, for the coming year is the magical, blue moon I sent your way last night for New Years Eve xoxo Mom

Fast forward … Another year has now passed and it will soon be New Year’s Eve 2010; some of the incredible, challenging, trying and/or joyful things that have happened to Ashley, as well as with the rest of us, throughout the year include … (Note: no time to write this letter in my usual quirky fashion. As always my letter is actually written specifically for my family as an addition to our compiled family history and then shared with all of you as our yearly update; this is not meant to appear as a brag fest but rather as an informational narrative.)

Ashley babe - You are now taking some upper level division classes at Penn State University earning a duel degree/certification in elementary education and secondary English and you passed your Praxis exams with flying colors! You have been on the Dean’s list several times and nominated for Who’s Who among Students in America. You have been selected as an Orientation Leader, CAB member enjoying many leadership experiences and activities and are the selected resident performer of the National Anthem for commencement exercises. You have also completed 150+ hours of student observation & assisting at an elementary and senior high school, received the female lead role in PSU’s Frankenstein the musical literally mesmerizing audiences with your incredible voice of both depth and range; in addition you have chaired the winter formal working your tail off planning and implementing the masquerade ball and ended the year performing with Michael’s band, your daddy at the ward Christmas party and in A Charlie Brown Christmas on stage at PSU.

You’ve also continued working for over three years part time as a food server, and as a nanny for a few months using you skills in situational education with the children as well as continue to serve as ward Primary chorister; it goes without saying the children adore you as much as you do them! In addition, your living quarters look like a cyclone hit, you’ve wrecked the car, stalked the lead singer from one of your favorite bands while we were in southern California and, had a few melt downs due to all of the stress of being a blazing your trails young adult; all of which goes with the territory for someone as motivated and driven as you are. However, with all of your comings and goings you and Michael enjoy your down time together, combined performances, study time and church.

Mica who also received a lead role in Frankenstein singing killer duets with you, was also an adorable Lynas in Charlie Brown, enjoys performing in his two bands one as the drummer the other as lead vocalist, is working diligently at school and at his part time job as a sales associate, and serving as a Sunday School teacher for teens at church. Ash, you also find time to make an appearance each week for our fabulous Sunday dinners and chit-chat session with your phantom family and shower Missy Belle Buttons with mammoth amounts of affection! All in all I think you’ve had one incredible “blue moon” of year baby doll :) … You brighten our days with your love and energy and as I’ve always stated your ability to live life at the speed of light is both admirable and contagious!

Cam the man - Do you ever stop long enough to take a breath, sip a soda or lie on your back to count the multitude of stars in the sky? NO! You graduated from Utah Valley University in International Business after fitting two semesters worth of credits into one with a desire to seek work in your field almost anywhere in the world. Unfortunately the economy has tanked and your generation is taking a back seat currently to out of work Boomers and Generation Xrs who have first dibs on low paying, no benefits jobs and a radical US presidency who promised hope and change but is trying to sell us down the river (grin). Nevertheless, you have been able to retain your full time position as a supervisor at Jitter Bug, a call center for senior citizens who are high on needing personal care and low on understanding technology helping these dear folks with their cell phone plans and pleas. This spring you look forward to helping your friend launch his intriguing start up business acting as sales manager here on the East coast. Of course we will be thrilled to have you living, for a while, on this side of the country once again hanging out with the fam while seeking to make your dreams come true!

You also discovered that you actually enjoyed camping deep in the breathtaking Wasatch Mountain range with friends, along with taking numerous road trips to Vegas, Seattle and Huntington Beach. You also purchased your first and last motor cycle excitedly enjoying solo rides throughout Utah valley and into the mountains, rides with friends, and on a date that ended in the Twilight Zone!

After a horrifying hit and run accident (by a fellow with several DUI’s speeding approximately 50 mph through a light hitting you and your date then dragging your bike approx., 400 feet then jumping out of his car fleeing on foot); you spent weeks in two different medical centers receiving four different surgeries which resulted in rods and screws from hip to ankle as well as a muscle, artery and vein transfer to your lower leg in order to save your limb! It was a miracle that you both survived the accident but survive you did and we thank the Lord every day for preserving your life sweetheart! Six weeks of rehab, then home health and now a couple of years of physical therapy still looming ahead all the while learning to administer your own IV antibiotics through a portable picc line, initiate electric scooter races down the isles at Walmart and watch every Steelers and Penns game on TV in order to keep your sanity through it all has also occupied your time.

Magnificent Priesthood blessings from your dad and friends, your name placed on temple roles and family and friends from diverse religions endlessly fasting and praying for you resulted in literal miracles too numerous to address in this letter; all of our lives were truly blessed through this ordeal. You are now back at work, finally driving your own car (?!) and enjoying living with friends Brent and Carlene as they so generously insisted on helping to take care of you in our absence. My month spent in Utah by your side was heartbreaking, stressful yet also extremely faith promoting; and dad’s weeks spent with you and I were equally eventful! We were touched by the numbers of visitors and even strangers who came to know you and sense your humble, positive, motivated spirit and of Brent and Carlene’s devotion to you. And here we are three months later, your picc line about to be removed, able to place some weight on your foot with crutches and hopefully you should be able to endure the flight home for the Christmas holidays – simply incredible!

And just like your sister your bedroom in your apartment also looks like a cyclone hit, you wrecked your motorcycle and you cyber stalked your favorite rock star finding his home through real estate records, drove us to his home in Los Angeles, proceeded to knock on his door, surprise his wife, enjoy chatting with his wife and then gleefully jumping back in the car to make a quick get-away! Are we noticing a pattern with our two kidlets?! haha :) Your devotion to your family and friends, affectionate, cheerful personality brings great joy into our lives as well Cameron! And I am so pleased that you and your sister share such a warm, magnificent brother-sister relationship; always having fun together, sharing advice, laughter and prayers. How very blessed we are to be you and Ashley’s parents and partners in crime :)

Jon beloved master of OUR universe - You continue to keep the manufacturing of steel rolling along in spite of ongoing crisis calls and headaches with the company’s outside operations. I’m simply amazed at how you juggle the balls locating and securing commodities from throughout the world at a moments notice, solve unsettling dilemmas and are also able to bail plant managers and others out of unexpected fiasco's. The manufacturing and marketing of steel is quite an intriguing process to say the least; your comical stories make it that much more fun to hear about!

You’ve also passionately attended many Penns, Steelers and Pirates games in ‘the’ coolest stadiums and arenas’ in the country right here in the burg! Enjoy both the pleasure and honor of having you and Cam’s photo inserted into the famed Mario Lemieux mosaic at the new Consol Energy Center, and slipped off to Florida on business and a rocking, fun time attending a Steelers game in Miami. Upcoming is the soon to be historic ‘Winter Classic’ wherein the Penns will compete outdoors at Heinz Field (Steelers stadium) wherein you and Cam will continue your father-son tradition of attending ice hockey games together – Goooooo Pens!

You also enjoy serving as Sunday School president and Teacher Development instructor in our ward, take pleasure in teaching families the gospel along side the full time missionaries, and lovingly take care of your wife and family doing everything from car repairs to laundry with a grin and seldom ever a grumble. I love that you are the most fascinating conversationalist on earth, enjoy lively political debates, share engaging historical accounts and recount mesmerizing stories of your childhood experiences and memories. In addition, you talk to your dog like she is a human three year old chattering, cooing and singing to her in that daddy/doggie language of yours, tease your kids incessantly and zonk out in front of the TV by ten dreaming of sugar plums, ginger bread boys and never having to shovel snow again in your life! haha :) All in all your unwavering integrity, endless acts of compassionate service and ability to love completely with no strings attached due to understanding the Lord’s plan of salvation for all of humanity touches me deeply. Families can be together forever – Over the hill Barbie and mid-life crisis Ken continue to cut a rug! You rock babe!

Rebecca, Becky, Beck – I continue to enjoy my passion for writing, developing and facilitating diverse workshops and presentations for my company in an attempt to compel people to learn and excel while having a great deal of fun in the process; in addition to simply driving people crazy with my sense of humor, zany training methods and sincere appreciation of individuals from all cultures and walks of life.

I also immensely enjoy serving as Gospel Doctrine instructor in our ward having wrapped up this years focus on the Old Testament (whew!) with New Testament soon to follow (yea!). Also, planning numerous fun filled events and adventures for our family; from a terrific graduation party for Cam out West catching up with dear family and friends to an exciting vacation / 35^th wedding anniversary celebration which entailed everything from hanging out at the Santa Monica pier, Disneyland, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the beach to seeking out unique Pittsburgh ice cream parlors, unique restaurants, exhibits, plays, concerts (James Taylor & Carol King, McCartney, etc.) to implementing the many delightful holiday traditions we enjoy throughout the year.

I’m passionately in love with my remarkable family, adore my incredible friends both near and far, I am a pathological photographer, prolific writer (working on my two manuscripts), manic movie buff, and all around eternal optimist! I also love those warm summer nights while visiting outside on our deck, attempting to beat everyone at our plethora of board games, enjoy making delicious crock pot meals when it’s cold outside; and have an affinity for road trips while singing and laughing in the car as a family, Jon’s homemade ice cream and hunkering in to read as many good books as possible throughout the year! PS Facebook is a riot – a terrific way to keep in touch!

Last January found us buried in 20 inches of snow with 10 additional inches three days later requiring Jon to spend an entire day trying to dig us out! This January we fig hey we’ve only got this winter and hopefully one other to suffer through before we relocate to the south-west if all goes as planned; so I think we can endure a few more ice storms before embracing palm trees, swimming pools and endless sunshine after pulling up stakes, closing the book on this particular chapter of our life while singing in unison ‘Happy Trails to You’ as we eagerly move toward another new and exciting adventure!

From a most horrifying situation initially - comprised of many prayers, tears, pain, and grave concern - Cameron has a bright future in store! We have witnessed remarkable miracles and received so many blessings due to the on going prayers offered in Cam's behalf by so many people throughout the country from diverse religious beliefs. After four surgeries, two medical centers and weeks in a rehab he is now home, working with home health care! His muscle and artery graft have been deemed 100% successful, bringing the blood supply to his leg in order to save the limb, he will now be able to finally put weight on his leg and begin approximately two years of additional physical therapy. He has truly been blessed.

The photos: Dr. Leonard, an inspiring plastic surgeon who is responsible for this outcome.; also of the tissue graft woven throughout Cam's leg. (The muscle (red) which you see will shrink at some point in time as it is no longer an operational muscle in the sense of those we use in our arms and legs, it was needed strictly to bring the needed blood supply to Cam's leg. Dr. Leonard is an expert in the field of micro surgery. The other photo is after two different surgeries required prior to the graft in order to insert rods and screws into the leg)

Other photo's include: Cam's dear friends Brent & Carlene who have become family and who have tirelessly helped in taking care of Cam and continue to do so as a result of the devotion these three friends have for one another. Gregg & Myra, dear friends of our family since Cam was a little boy who drove 4 hours to and from Idaho to visit all of us. (So many more family members and friends visited as well, I only wish I had, had the energy and focus to have remembered to snap everyone's photos!) The beautiful Mount Timpanogos temple; exemplifies the love of our our Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ for Cameron as well as all of us on this earth past, present and future; and of course our precious son whose life was preserved!

Sincere thanks to the extraordinary medical teams in both hospitals and at the rehab including Dr. Bacon, Cam's orthopedic trauma surgeon. Dr. Leonard in whom we simply adore! And many sincere thanks to all of you, once again, for your encouraging words (love facebook!), fasting and prayers.

Cam has actually returned to work part time, takes joy rides in a wheel chair throughout the mall and has even had outings to Utah Lake for some fresh air and sunshine complements of his dear friends. From that heartbreaking call we received in the middle of the night informing us of Cam's accident to now (6 weeks later) it has been an insightful, humbling, nerve racking journey to say the least, however, the outcome was simply miraculous! And thanks to the media lol so that Cam could watch all of the Steelers and Pens games which helped him to keep his sanity through the endless, tedious hours and weeks being held prisoner by a bed, haha :)

We may have missed taking our yearly family photos at our favorite pumpkin patch this year but in lieu of the missed event we received the ultimate blessing of still being able to enjoy our son's presence on this earth. America has THE most advanced, expert medical care bar none! And guess what ... our son who has a passion for running WILL ONE DAY RUN AGAIN!

Frankenstein - the musical - staring Ashley & Michael

Ashley and Michael both have staring roles in the Penn State University production of Frankenstein (the musical not the comedy). Written and performed in a similar fashion to Phantom of the Opera with outstanding music it should be an incredible performance!

Ash and Mica have been working long, arduous hours over the past couple of months, along with the other members of the cast, perfecting their vocal numbers, lines, staging, etc. Dress rehearsal is this evening and we plan to be there front and center snapping a gazillion pictures!

Break a leg kidlets! (A theater term for opening night) … well, perhaps considering what Cam is going through DON’T break a leg, haha, but best of luck as you light up the theater with you incredible vocal talent and chemistry! We love you xoxo

Cam and his date were involved in a horrifying accident on his motorcycle; a hit and run wherein the driver drug Cam's bike 400 feet, then jumped out of his car and fled on foot! It was a miracle that they were not killed or received brain or spinal injury! Their protection was obviously of a Divine nature.

Cam's friend is healing and back at school thank goodness, but Cam has endured three surgeries at two different regional medical centers in order to save his leg. Without going into detail it has been a frightening, exhausting yet powerfully spiritually experience for all of us. We have witnessed miracles and a wealth of blessings tied to the faith and prayers of so many family and friends everywhere praying for Cameron and our family. We cannot express how humble we feel, how touched by so many well wishes and strengthened by the distinct power of prayer.

Heavenly Father loves these two young adults and has preserved their lives ,no doubt , as they each still have a mission to fulfill on this earth. Throughout this laboriously draining process of surgeries and healing Cam has retained his positive attitude, cheerfulness and sense of humor. He does not wish ill of the driver, though justice should be served; in fact it disturbs Cam to hear anyone belittle this crazed driver or to make hurtful assumptions. For this man to have literally fled the accident on foot speaks volumes regarding the state of mind he must have been in - enough said.

We have had countless individuals who are strangers to us commend us on Cam's genuine spirit and his ability to remain gracious and thankful for every act of service provided him in spite of the debilitating pain and suffering he has experienced. We are very proud of him and exceedingly grateful that we still have our son with us to love and to enjoy!

All three surgeries were successful, the last one being of greatest consequence, due to the magnificent expertise of the plastic and orthopedic surgeons involved. Cam's plastic surgeon Dr. Leonard is a pioneer in his field of micro surgery and is not only exceptional, but such a warm, engaging man with a terrific sense of humor and ability to explain each detail of the process so that a patient and family can fully understand the complexities of such an intricate procedure. (Transferring muscle, arteries and veins to the damaged area of the body.) We also came to find out that he is a brother-in-law to friends of ours back home in PA!

All of Cam's surgeons, pa's, nurses, aids, etc., have been tremendous. He has been in a rehab center now for close to a week and becoming stronger by the moment. I have not seen him whine, curse, lash out, or even say things such as, "Why me?!" Instead he has only talked about "when" he will run again so as to prepare for the marathons in his future. Defeat is not in his mindset, he is motivated and driven to beat this obstacle; and no doubt he will.

Cam's days of riding his cycle into the canyons and on the trails of the Wasatch Mountains may have come to an end but he will forever have memories of the freedom and excitement of riding along side his friend Brent enjoying nature at its best! Now he focuses on a couple of years of physical therapy after many endless weeks of having to lie flat in bed in order to regain the use of his leg ... but he has the faith (pure trust) in God that he will continue to be blessed and to enjoy a full recovery. He may not be able to run at the level he has up until this point ,as a passionate distance runner, but if all continues at the level it is progressing he WILL run again!

Many sincere, deep felt thanks to all of our family and friends who have provided endless loving acts of service, prayers, visits, meals, and help in all forms! From Loraine , Kurt , Brent & Carlene, and Gayle and Bryan rushing to the hospital as we made plans to fly cross country to arrive here to visits, calls and messages from so many who wanted to come and offer their support and help! And to Brent and Carlene, Cam's dear friends and now ours as well, for their incredible devotion to our son! Young adults who have dedicated their lives to service and who have provided a wealth of assistance helping to put plans into action so as to prepare a living environment for Cam wherein they can help him to recuperate and take his life back. A daunting task still lies ahead for Cam as well as Brent and Carlene but their generous and loving attitudes has simply amazed us and been a great blessing in Cam's life! Friends of this caliber are often rare in life; but Brent has become a brother to Cam and it is apparent the respect and adoration these three Musketeers have for one another!

Once I leave here it will have been a solid month I will have spent back in our home state seeing Cam through this ordeal. I could not have achieved everything I needed to as a mother without Jon's physical and emotional help and strength of testimony during so many pain wrenching moments of silent screams and streams of tears. Jon is our rock and was able to accomplish a great deal in Cam's behalf while here; and Ashley and Michael back east at home keeping the home fires bringing in our absence has been a great help as well. We are so very blessed to have such a tight knit, loving family.

Tomorrow Cam returns to see his surgeon in Salt Lake wherein we will once again be able to hear the life blood flowing into his leg through the Doppler attached to his leg and then later a visit to his orthopedic trauma surgeon in Utah county to see how all of the rods and screws are doing in his leg. It is breathtaking seeing the modern miracles of medicine which allow people such hope!

We may never be able to repay each of you for your individual words and acts of service in our families behalf; but know that you "our earth angels" have inspired us and we WILL pay it forward ! Our impetuous will be your fine example of Christ-like service as we seek to help lives that we, also, find have need of comfort and service in what ever manor :)

Thank you Heavenly Father for the bounteous blessings you continue to bestow upon our family. And thank you for allowing us to learn from challenging mortal experiences; which compel us to become more humble, more teachable, and to learn and grow into more caring, appreciative individuals. And thank you for further helping to strengthen our testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ as we rely on the power of the Priesthood, as well as the empowering ability to serve others, and of our knowledge that families can be together forever!

Post Script 10/19/10 - Cam's surgeon proclaimed magnificent progress today! The transplanted tissues are thriving and now he can even sit up and walk on his good leg up to 30 minutes every three hours! Cam is stoked to have greater freedom from being chained to his bed lol :) It's a wonderful day indeed! Also, his friend in whom he grew up with in our Pittsburgh ward, Darlene Stoddard Agle, approached us early on with an idea to host a "run" here in Utah in Cam's behalf to help generate donations for his spiraling out of sight, out of pocket medical expenses this poor recent college grad will have to some how come up with. Further details will be forthcoming but it will be called "Beat the Bike!" (check out Darlene's blog at www.beatthebike.blogspot.com) . This is such a generous offer of time and effort by her & friends to plan and implement! Again, we are touched beyond words as to her thoughtful effort in behalf of Cam as well as all of yours as well!

California Dreamin'

Life's a beach and then you die! ... Fun in the sun family vacation tied to some work in southern California. We showed our kids our version of hanging out in LA; many fond memories of travels up and down the coast of California while growing up and even after Jon and I married. We LOVE the city of Angels and the string of beaches from San Francisco on down the coast.

A day at Disneyland was great fun, we finally converted Cameron to how crazy-fun the theme park can actually be if he is with his family!! However, we want to take him to Disneyworld and really blow his mind! His busy schedule due to college, work, mission have kept him from being able to come on our trips to Disneyworld. Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Pirates, Haunted Mansion (though closed this time), Peter Pan, the submarine ride ... every last morsel of Disney is delightful and dining at the Blue Bayou was icing on the cake.

We enjoyed a day at Santa Monica Blvd (actually 3rd street) and the pier which was lovely. The shopping is terrific there. A crazy tour of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Sunset Strip, etc., locating the homes of many movie stars; I'm partial to the stars from back in the day classic movies! Boggles my mind that on one street for instance Lucille Ball lived across the street from Humphrey Bogart and two other famous stars from that era! It's also fun to go to the Chinese theater and see all of the stars hand and foot prints in the concrete as well as the stars on the walk of fame. I was on a mission to once again see the hand prints of Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, Shirlee Temple, etc., and I wasn't disappointed.

We spent time beach hopping which is one of our all time favorite things to do! Huntington, Newport, Balboa on down to San Diego on a magnificent, leisurely drive. We enjoyed a lovely beach somewhere between Carlsbad and San Clemente that was incredible! Driving the PCH is simply a joy and provides breathtaking scenery.

We did everything from hopping in our rental car and setting out to track down a favorite rock star that both Cam and Ash like from the band(s) Something Corporate / Jack's Mannequin. Cam conducted some online real estate research (haha) and located his home in Silver Lake; Cam & Ash knocked on his door, spoke to the guy's wife and left a little gift for him - it was crazy and sooooo CHRISTESON in spirit! We also tracked down a park in downtown LA that was in a movie Cam liked called 500 Days of Summer. Bizarre yet fun! And Ash later had us search for a strip mall that sported a very unassuming club where one of her favorite bands, Avenged Sevenfold, started out.

On the official stars tour, though Jon and I used to buy one of those cheesy maps sold on the street and thereby locate the homes ourselves, but this time we enjoyed a mini bus tour. We saw current stars such as Britney Spears, Christina Agulara, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez homes &/or former homes, along with Ringo Starr and George Harrison, Michael Jackson to Lindsey Lohan, Tom Cruise and Jennifer Aniston (and many others) to the old time Hollywood legends. So strange that anyone (us included) even wants to spend time scouting out stars homes but it was actually quite entertaining hearing all of the stories and recent happenings as well as realizing just how small the Hollywood community truly is.

We spent time on Rodeo Drive as Ash wanted to see the famous shops; his was her first trip to California! Sunset Blvd where many bands and stars were discovered such as the Doors (from the 60's), etc. We ate ourselves silly dining out and laughed non stop ... it was truly a memorable experience being with our kids. I can't think of anyone I'd rather spend time with than my family!!

Alas, the week came to an end. We saw Cam off at LAX en route back to Salt Lake and we hit the tarmac a day later for home which included a repeat change of planes in Phoenix. Oh how I longed to STAY in Phoenix!!! By time we arrived home it felt like it had simply been a dream that we had spent so much time amid palm trees, blue skies, sandy beaches and incredible Mexican food. Like I said ... Life's a BEACH and then you die! PS tons of fun pictures on my facebook page!

Happy 20th birthday Ashley babe! You know the story well but here is a repeat of the charming and blessed events ... As a family we had been praying for our baby to be born for a very long time and Cameron, age 5, wanted a little sister! One day after watching the TV cartoon the Flintstones and seeing that Barny and Betty Rubble wished on a star and the next day Bam-Bam was found in a basket on their doorstep Cam rushed into the room and insisted that what we needed to do was wish on a star for you!!

That night we did; we wished on a star, (in all good humor of course) and literally two days later we received a call from Family Services asking if we wanted to come and bring our new baby daughter home with us! Of course we all realize that Heavenly Father required that the timing be right for your glorious entrance into this world and that fasting and prayer is what finally brought you to us; however, I think that Cam was inspired and from that day forward you became our precious 'wish upon a star' daughter :) Each Christmas up through your 18th year we have given you a special gift connected to a star theme to commemorate the wonderful, magical blessing of our daughter's birth and sealing to us in the Provo temple.

Ashley, we love you with all of our hearts sweetheart! You are an exceedingly intelligent, spiritual, talented, beautiful, loving, motivated spit fire of a girl. A young woman with an incredible moral compass and strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ with a thirst for knowledge and desire to pursue incredible experiences. It has been such an honor to be your mother with all that this entails; laughing and crying together, pursuing incredible adventures and experiences together, working through life's challenges and dilemmas together and even being silly together. You are definitely daddy's little girl but a mother and daughter share an equally special bond - our hearts are identical and knitted together with beautiful silver threads of love and respect for one another!

We are so proud of you babe! What fun to see you make the Dean's List three times in a row and I'm sure it will not stop there. How moving to see you love and lead the little Primary children in church in their songs each Sunday; and your desire to major in elementary education and secondary English where you will continue to have a positive impact on children and teens lives for years to come is equally touching. How delightful to see how devoted you are to your big brother, of the fun you have together and the affection you share for one another. How touching to see you evolve as a young woman who is in love with the love of your life as you and Michael pursue your goals and prepare for a temple marriage and family in the future. You simply take my breath away Ash in how you are choosing to live your life!

Your 20th year is starting with a bang indeed! Exciting college classes juggled with holding down 1-2 jobs on the side. Being selected as a model for Whirl magazines bridal addition http://whirlmagazine.com/?p=8648 , being involved on campus as an orientation leader, chairman of the winter formal, vice president of the drama club AND now having auditioned for and been selected as the female lead in the fall Broadway musical Frankenstein http://frankensteinthemusical.com (to hear the beautiful soundtrack); and icing on the cake is acting and singing with Michael who was also awarded a significant role! The two of you possess such incredible singing talent, it is going to be such a treat seeing you both on stage once again and this time in such substantial roles.

May your next 20 yeas and beyond be filled with many delightful surprises honey, continued focus in dealing with life's difficulties, on going enthusiasm as you pursue your many, diverse goals and a song in your heart as you reflect each night on from whence all of your blessings have come. Heavenly Father loves you Ashley Bretlyn and your entire family thinks you rock!

Heavenly Father wants all of His children to learn & experience all that is good during this life; and to include many diverse people in our circle of extended family. How utterly limiting & suffocating to have only experienced the bud of a rose and not its full sublime bloom by journey's end!

I'm sure we will be accountable for any lack of curiosity, desire to learn, or disinterest in sharing our knowledge and wisdom with others during the process. Life is an extraordinary adventure; to squander it by always remaining in ones own comfort zone seldom challenging oneself, never exploring ideas, principles, places or talents is disheartening. Quilting Bees

My dear friend Gayle surprised me for my birthday with the most exquisite quilt she created! She is such a gifted artist! Vision & talent of this caliber deserve to be celebrated so I want to publicly express my heartfelt gratitude for her endless hours of effort.

I will treasure this gift forever and always as each stitch represents the power of friendship; two young girl friends, now middle aged, (or seasoned as I like to refer to those of us who are no longer young adults) who have enjoyed many years of sharing laughter, concerns, tears, joy, secrets, successes and family. A friendship quilt made by loving hands and accepted by a humble heart. Though I adore my quilt I love Gayle for the caliber of person she is and am so blessed to have her in my life!

Heart flutters & hugs … for all of the warm, birthday wishes from each of you! Thank you dear family & friends! Read what I have written for YOU in return.

Friendships established long ago combined with those which are more recent in the making continue to bring such depth and texture to my life; riches beyond compare! As a writer I can’t help but record in my personal journals endearing memories of each of you. I have something interesting, insightful, or even comical to say about each one of you; as well as all who are not actually on Facebook with the rest of us crazies :)

Each one of you in some fashion has impacted my life for good. Your generous spirits, heartfelt comments, comical stories & comments, and email messages behind the FB wall simply lift my spirits on any given day and bring a smile to my face.

When my family asked what I longed for, for my birthday I responded ‘acts of service’. To me it isn’t the tangible gifts, travel or even the romantic evenings out – though of course I do enjoy and appreciate those surprises as well – but rather, it’s the small, quiet acts of service in my behalf or in others behalf that most touch my heart and are so greatly appreciated. And seeing so many delightful messages on my FB wall falls into that category which further magnified my delight! Receiving what might appear as a simple birthday wish over a social media site like FB is incredible which I’m sure you would all agree.

How rare it is to be so very blessed with an array of friends who know you well or even just a little. Each friend so diverse in nature with your own busy lives and memories which in turn have become woven into the fiber of my own - and for this I thank YOU! PS I had a major insulin pump malfunction for the past 36 hours so I apologize for not thanking you sooner or individually but what I have done is noted a series of descriptive terms in ‘random order’ which describe each of you. Interesting thing is that when I completed the list it was very apparent that many of the terms actually describe a combination of traits each one of you possess! So folks who wrote on my wall or sent a behind the wall wish, this is my quirky gift to you in return … yunz rock!

It was a classy farewell to the Pittsburgh Civic Arena by James Taylor & Carol King! An exceedingly memorable concert; incredible stage presence, lyrics and melodies and such fond memories we shall always share in having attended many Penns hockey games and other concerts there as well. Jon loved his birthday surprise with his two girls :) If we look a tad tired in the photos we were slumming it at Denny's after the performance enjoying an after midnight breakfast.
