Ushering in the Christmas Season 2015

So many treasured memories come to mind when I reflect on the years we were rearing our children.  Countless festive Christmas seasons filled with gratitude for our Saviors birth and the memorable traditions we established as a family. I like to say I attempted to create magical moments throughout the holidays; flaming snowballs, tinkling chimes, Christmas Eve feast combined with a special Family Night playing board games, listening to music and watching holiday movies were delightful.

Parties at our home and at the homes of friends, Santa's visit leaving wished for surprises for the kids.  Our door bell ringing constantly for two weeks prior with exciting gifts from Jon's vendors (all acceptable via company policy of course), outings to see the light displays, baking cookies and making homemade candy.  Hot spiced cider and rooms filled with love and laughter.  We have been extremely blessed to have experienced an all American Christmas season each year!  Jon and I have now been married 40 incredible years, working side by side rearing our family, serving our church and community and seeking to share the gospel with all we know.  I love this man with every depth and breath within me!

I am deeply grateful for our Savior Jesus Christ's birth and the hope and purpose his life ministry and gospel brings into lives throughout the world.  Our family is blessed to be members of his true church here on this earth today - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - which provides both direction and anchor for our family as we strive to live worthy of being together throughout eternity!  The gospel of Jesus Christ encompasses members in love, service, sacrifice, and joy!  I am also grateful for the privileged of living in this remarkable country - The United States of America - with all of the freedoms offered its citizens; heartfelt thanks to all who have or do serve in the US Military, including our son Paul helping to keep our country free, viable and a beacon to the world!

I am very blessed to be a woman, wife, mother and grandmother - each are sacred roles to me and I thank my Heavenly Father daily for these extraordinary privileges!  May your Christmas season be filled with love, laughter, and meaning!  ... Pics then and now ...

Thanksgiving Family Fun!

https://www.facebook.com/rebeccachristeson/videos/vb.1560405052/10208018465650369/?type=3&theater

It was awesome having all of our kidlets here for several days over Thanksgiving!  We enjoyed a fun girls lunch out, shopping, laughing, talking and bonding; and it was a special treat having the girls help me prepare our Thanksgiving feast!  We also had great fun with our guys; a family photo outing, movies and sports, playing a crazy-fun game that had us all in stitches laughing, and even a day trip to Las Vegas for a special lunch at the Bellagio Hotel!  I surprised the girls with matching p.j.'s and a darling Christmas serving platter and the guys with Thanksgiving baskets with some candy, book mark, etc., focusing on our first family spiritual/temporal planning meeting.  Our time together was a blast!  I love all of you to forever and back!!  (wink)

Important side bar - Paul was ordained an Elder in the Melchezedik Priesthood a couple of weeks prior to our family Thanksgiving!!!!!  We are so very proud of Paul and his ongoing study, discussions, service in his church callings and excellent example for his sweet family.  Ashley has been a tremendous, loving influence in his life.

The core reason for and importance of my blog.

Hello family and friends - My blog "Beccashenanigans" is part of my living family history.  My hope and goal is that each post, which now lives on the internet, is accessible for generations to come.  It is my strong desire that our family enjoys reflecting on many of the memories and photos I post over the years bringing to life once again treasured experiences and activities we have lovingly shared together as well as challenges and trials we have faced and overcome.  I hope this blog, in addition to my Facebook page, is an inspiration to all.

We are Christians.  Serious, active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  God our Father is father of all humankind, His son Jesus Christ, our savior and redeemer, and the Holy Ghost (The Godhead) influence and guide us on this mortal journey of life.  Agency (free thought, action, and accountability) is the gift we enjoy on a daily basis as we strive to be obedient to the commandments and live lives worthy of returning to their presence one day.  It's a joyous life!  A life filled with purpose, direction, comfort, peace, and great personal fulfillment and joy.  We laugh a lot together in our home; our hearts smile, our attitudes sing, our experiences are remarkable!

Family is what it's all about for us!  Embracing this exciting journey together and creating warm, wonderful, magical memories in the process is the goal.  With this said, I am an adopted child sealed in God's temple to my wonderful family and our children are both adopted, as well, and sealed to Jon and I.  A marvelous, precious blessing which has blessed all of our lives tremendously.  Because our church doctrine teaches us that we existed in spirit form prior to being born here on earth I am a firm believer that the Lord gets the right spirit to the right home one way or another!  Our home, or temple as we know it, is our individual human body; and just like a physical home (dwelling) it has an electrical system, plumbing, and so forth.  We are taught to keep our bodies healthy and pure as our spirit dwells within.

Our home is also our family ties.  I feel with every fiber of my being, knowing how organized the gospel of Jesus Christ is that the process of spirits coming to this earth is achieved through equal measure.  Consideration, thought and by Priesthood design I am certain these important decisions are made prior to our existence on earth.  No matter who our families are to be or where we are to reside in the world with its challenges, complications, joy or strife, the Lord has reason for us to be where we are and who we are to be reared by.  This life is a test pure and simple; and without doubt our challenges and blessings are part of our grand, eternal design.  Earth life is but a fleeting moment in time; each of us should live it with passion and purpose!

Some of us women, here in mortality, are not able to conceive and/or carry a baby to full term and yet the spirit which is to become our son(s) and daughter(s) must arrive by a different means through that of a birth mother.  In our home because of our understanding and legacy of adoption we feel exceedingly grateful to the birth parents for providing this conduit in order to get our child to their earthly and eternal home!  It is with great sacrifice that a woman gives birth to a baby (spirit) which she realizes is not to be her own vs., aborting it, and we pray for her and the birth father that they may received a sense of calming assurance that they did, indeed, make the right decision.  In our case, each birth mother received Priesthood blessings and knew without doubt that the baby they were each carrying was not theirs and for this we will be eternally grateful for their sacrifice in all of our behalf and for their faith demonstrated through obedience to their Father in Heaven.

Some people search out their birth parents when they are adults as they feel they are missing something regarding their identity or family ties.  I've noticed that people who have either been dealt with or created for themselves unfortunate situations feel as if  they were to find their birth parents everything would  be alright for them.  Few of these adopted people seen on TV, for instance, are Latter-day Saints and, therefore, lack the insight and understanding that we do regarding the purpose of earth life and of eternal families.  However, in my case and the case of our children none of us have been compelled to seek out our birth parents because we KNOW who are parents and family members are - it is each other!  We have always told our kids that once adults if they desired to search we would gladly help them; but when you realize that once one is sealed (a special blessing given) in the Lord's temple (edifice) to your family here on earth you are truly an eternal member of that family.  It's such a beautiful, peaceful assurance and understanding.  No sensationalism, only a sense of peace and calm within knowing that you are where you are meant to be. :)

Who knows how long we all existed in spirit form during pre earth life.  And yet, I have known from the very moment we held each of our precious children in my arms that I knew that spirit from long ago, and Cameron and Ashley were meant to come to earth to reside in our home, being sealed for eternity to us, and, thereby, fulfill their mortal requirements so as to return to our Heavenly Fathers presence again one day and enjoy eternal life as a tight knit family from generations before us and generations after.

We may not look exactly alike, but then many families don't, but I like to say our hearts are identical and tied together with silver threads of love!  Our son and daughter's personalities, behavior and communication patterns, thought  process, humor, expression of love and so forth are so much like both Jon and I in many ways it is amazing!  So their temples (physical human home) may not look exactly like either of us but their hearts and their will are Jon and my kidlets all the way!  We love them with every fiber of our beings and have loved rearing them and teaching them the way to eternal happiness.  Our lives are so richly blessed in being members of Christ's true church here on this earth and in having an opportunity to experience this exciting mortal existence together!   xoxo I love you to the stars and back my sweet kidlets as well as your spouses, children and future children.
