Catching Up With Cam :)
Cam's
first 5K "The Color Run" after his accident; two arduous years leading up to this point
in time! A day of great satisfaction and achievement!
This is his comment after having enjoyed this achievement, "Can't
express how happy I feel to be able to run again after 2 years, big
THANK YOU to everyone who made today possible. Special thanks to Ashley
Bretlyn and Coy for cheering me on, Kyler Wescott Krieg for running with
me, and Brent Albrechtsen for getting me through the toughest months.
Many more to come, Pittsburgh Marathon '13 bound!!

When
Cam was a freshman in high school the track/cross country coach
convinced him to start running; he developed a passion for it! He
served as a captain of their 50+ member (if I recall the exact number)
teams and literally ran 6 days a week in hot, humid weather, sheets of
rain and in the freezing snow. He had the most incredible coach of all
time Joe Ionta who was an excellent coach, mentor
and who became a dear friend of our family.
Cam was recruited by numerous universities/colleges but he selected the University of Utah and enjoyed a wonderful year developing his talent even further and making terrific friends. While on his mission in Hong Kong the U of U dismantled their men's running programs (what were they thinking?!!), so Cam lost his scholarship and decided to transfer to UVU but it was not the caliber of program he had come from or team dynamics like his high school and U of U teams so he ceased competing on the college level but never lost his love of running.
After being hit by a drunk driver after he graduated college in the field of International Business; and having rods and screws inserted from hip to ankle along with an artery and vein transfer from upper thigh to calf in order to save his limb his dear friends brought him into their home to care for him as we could not transport him back home to Pittsburgh. I remained in Utah for a month for the surgeries at the medical centers in Provo and Sandy at IHC and to see him through his month in a rehab center at which time Brent & Carlene took excellent care of him requiring months of helping him in more ways than I can list! Their sacrifice was beyond comprehension for which Cam, Jon, Ash and I are all extremely grateful!
It has been an arduous journey and yet never once have I heard Cam say, "Why me?!", rather, he has kept his focus, struggled, and will deal with pain and discomfort the rest of his life but he has never lost his resolve to one day run again. He has an incredible attitude and belief in God's continuing blessings in his behalf!
Heartfelt thanks from our entire family to Dr. Larry Leonard for his expertise in micro-surgery, Brent & Carlene Albrechtsen and Darlene Agle who started the Beat the Bike site, along with all of our extended family members and friends who have kept him in their prayers and routed for his recovery. Today is a remarkable accomplishment for Cam and I'm sure without doubt he will continue to build his strength and run many more 5K's, if not marathons during his life!
Note: He just called us filled with excitement about his day and thanking us for our love and support; it breaks a parents heart when one's children have to endure extreme challenges in life - even though we know it is part of this process in life meant by Heavenly Father to help all people grow and become stronger - but it's difficult nevertheless. Today, however, is a magnificent culminating event after such tragedy. Your family is giving you a standing ovation Cam! xoxo

Ashley's Passion for Singing!
I am sooooo proud of our Ashley babe! Her
vocal audition at UVU for an incredible music scholarship went exceedingly well!
She prepared a very difficult, complicated piece to perform (Girl in 14 G) which allowed Ash to demonstrate three musical forms in a story format; Loraine said she
did an awesome job (she accompanied her) Loraine also stated that Ash was well spoken and articulate in her interview. All
of this combined with her excellent essay, etc., places her in the
running for the soul vocal scholarship being awarded. Nevertheless, if
she is not selected she can always be proud that she put forth a great
deal of effort in order to have walked away knowing she had done her
very best. Major congrats to our daughter; I love seeing our kids take
risks seeking to make their dreams come true :)
We're Excitedly Counting Down the Day's!
Ashley and Paul's engagement photos :)
We are very excited to welcome Paul into our family! He is such a warm, intelligent, loving, kind, patient, motivated, hard working, well read, cheerful man. He lives his life in service to others and loves our daughter to the moon and back! Paul is also very adventurous; he enjoys snow boarding, wake boarding, scuba diving, snorkeling, camping, fishing, etc., and served as a medic in the US Military - he is currently in the reserves. Our two kidlets are two joyful spirits who enjoy one another's company, laugh together continually, support each other in their educational and career pursuits, and look forward to building an eternal marriage and family together. We, as well, look forward to an eternity of extraordinary experiences with Paul and Ashley and creating many lasting memories together :)
